Calvary Baptist Church
Calvary Baptist Church started in 1976 in a rented building in Rockledge, PA, and in a short time moved to larger accommodations in Cheltenham, PA across from Philadelphia’s Burholme Park. In 1979, through much prayer and personal sacrifice, God allowed the congregation to purchase the historic McKinley Elementary School building as our own property. This charming stone edifice was built in 1898 in the McKinley section of Elkins Park, Abington Township, Montgomery County. Though older buildings bring with them challenges in areas of maintenance and conveniences, they also bring a certain distinction and charm. The old McKinley School property has provided the members of Calvary ample opportunity to sacrifice time and resources while using existing skills and developing new ones in keeping the building beautiful and serviceable. God has blessed this congregation with a building that we have been able to grow into over the years. We love being “the old-fashioned family church preaching the old-fashioned gospel in the old-fashioned schoolhouse.”
